It looks like Singapore’s hot on the world map right now. Two of our hotels have made it onto the World’s 50 Best Hotels list, but that’s not the only area in which we’re shining. The Best of the Best Restaurants in the world for 2023 have just been announced, and one Singaporean establishment – Chinese restaurant Summer Pavilion at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore – has emerged in the top 20 for the Fine Dining category.

Considering how we’re very much a foodie’s paradise, it’s not entirely unexpected that Singapore has made its place on the list. What might leave locals scratching their heads, however, is the choice of restaurant in question. While Summer Pavilion is noteworthy in its own right – the Cantonese restaurant does have one Michelin star to its name – it may not be the first place that comes to mind, especially with the presence of other famed establishments such as La Dame de Pic and Odette in the Lion City. In fact, Odette recently scored the title of Best Restaurant in Asia at the World's 50 Best 2023 Awards Ceremony.

According to Tripadvisor, the restaurants go through a rigorous screening process, where less than 1% of their 8 million listings make the cut for the Best of the Best. A good portion of community input and travellers’ reviews gathered over a 12-month period are also considered as part of this selection.

It appears that Restaurant Bougainville from Amsterdam is a fan favourite, having bagged the number one spot this year. Restaurants in Asia that have made the top 25 list for fine dining include: Ise Sueyoshi from Tokyo, Japan at #2; Avartana from Chennai, India at #6; Akira Back from Bangkok, Thailand at #7; Tin Lung Heen from Hong Kong at #15; Mandarin Grill + Bar at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong at #18; Man Wah from Hong Kong at #25.
