There ain't no party like a cocktail party and Singapore played host to the biggest annual cocktail bash of them all. The World's 50 Best Bars held its 15th annual award ceremony today, October 17, right here at Pasir Panjang Power Station. This is the first time the announcement took place outside of Europe – a part of the event's effort to highlight more bar scenes from around the world.
On this year's list, three Singapore bars managed to secure well-deserved spots. Leading the charge is Jigger and Pony as the 14th best bar in the world, followed by Sago House (32nd) and Atlas (48th). Jigger and Pony also secured the second spot on the Asia's 50 Best Bars list earlier this year. The establishment is a true pioneer of Singapore's cocktail scene and has also recently just launched its fifth menu-zine – its refreshed cocktail menu that offers a retrospective look into the past.
Not far behind is Sago House at 32, which recently moved to its new home on 37 Duxton Hill from its original location on Sago Street. Atlas also shines as Singapore's third representative securing the 48th position with this opulent art deco design and incomparable gin collection. Singapore also boasts five additional bars within The World's 50 Best 51-100 list, namely 28 HongKong Street at #59, Manhattan at #63, Nutmeg & Clove at #64, Analogue Initiative at #78 and Native at #83. Night Hawk also took home an additional honour for the best bar design presented by Bareksten.
Claiming the crown of the world's best bar in 2023 is none other Barcelona's Sips. Last year's top seat, Barcelona's Paradiso, took the 4th spot this year. The World's 50 Best Bars list is curated by a panel of over 650 drink experts from around the globe. This year's panel has the most extensive pool of experts assembled since the list's inception in 2009. Each expert casts their votes confidentially for the top seven bars they've visited in the past 18 months.
