Another day, another challenge. If you haven't had the chance to dress up in weeks, here's your chance. On May 12, Singapore commemorates 20,000 days since independence. And though we are encouraged to stay at home, there are ways you can celebrate with the community from your own home.
The initiative – called #SG20K – was first introduced by Geylang Serai Community Club (CC), which has been very active with its 'circuit breaker' programming. If you want in on this movement, all you have to do is to take a photo of yourself (solo or with family) in red or white with the Singapore flag and upload the photo to your Instagram account using the official #SG20K hashtag.
Professor Fatimah Lateef, MP for Marine Parade GRC, said that the 'circuit breaker' is a time for us to reflect together on how far we have come as a nation, how we have stood up for Singapore, and how we'll continue to progress into the future.
PA hopes that this small social media challenge brings people together as a show of unity and resilience. Since the 'circuit breaker' started, there have been many community initiatives under the #SGUnited umbrella such as clapping for front-line workers and singing Dick Lee's Home from our balconies. Though they may be small gestures, it makes people feel less socially distant from their neighbours and community.
Want to do more? Here are some ways you can help the community. You can also make someone's day by sending them a care package.
