Universal Studios Singapore is set to go through a facelift this year. In a press release, Singapore’s favourite (and only) theme park will be expanding its attractions with the introduction of Minion Land. That’s right, an entire land dedicated to these beloved yellow creatures from Despicable Me

The new land is part of Resorts World Sentosa’s latest expansion to revitalise the tourism sector for a post-pandemic future. The expansion, RWS 2.0, was first announced in 2019, where new attractions and entertainment will be added to the resort.

On top of having a whole new area to call home, the Minions will also be bringing a host of new rides for you to enjoy. The main attraction at the new Minion zone will be the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem 3D ride. The motion-simulator 3D ride will bring visitors through Gru’s iconic house and into his laboratory, where you get to meet the mischievous characters and get turned into a Minion as well. There will also be an original ride exclusive to USS, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

In addition, shops and restaurants are also Minion-themed to ensure that you are still part of the Despicable Me experience wherever you go.

The S.E.A Aquarium will also be undergoing a facelift by 2024. Firstly, the aquarium has been renamed Singapore Oceanarium (SGO), and it will be expanding three times its original size. Expect engaging exhibits that provide immersive experiences and multi-sensory storytelling on the evolution of marine life. There will also be presentations on Singapore’s coastal ecosystems and how to care for the environment. This expansion aims to offer a more in-depth and enriching experience for visitors while inspiring a more positive mindset change and a drive to protect the oceans. The Singapore Oceanarium will also boast a carbon-neutral Research and Learning Centre and advanced facilities for scientists to conduct marine science research.

Construction on the Singapore Oceanarium as well as Minion Land will both begin in the second half of 2022. Resorts World Sentosa will also be refurbishing three of its hotels: the Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, Hotel Michael and Festive Hotel. Renovations will be done in 2022 through 2023, and the final look will offer a business-leisure and work-vacation hotel. There will also be new mobile working facilities to meet the latest work trends.
