We're sure you've heard the news by now, but Singapore is set to enter Phase 3 of its reopening by the end of the year. As Singapore gears up for the final phase of its reopening, additional measures are also being implemented to ensure a smooth transition. Among which, checking in with the TraceTogether app or token will soon be made mandatory at all popular venues, including restaurants, workplaces, schools and shopping malls.
When the new rule kicks in, everyone must instead use the TraceTogether app or token instead of the current SafeEntry check-in system. The TraceTogether app and token exchange Bluetooth signals with other apps or tokens nearby, so you can track who you've come into contact with. The data is then encrypted and stored for 25 days before being automatically deleted.
This new mandate follows a statement by Lawrence Wong at a virtual press conference yesterday, where he announced that at least 70 per cent of the population has to download the TraceTogether app before Singapore gets to phase three of its reopening.
The implementation of TraceTogether-only SafeEntry will be done together with the expanded distribution of TraceTogether tokens, which can be collected for free at 38 community centres. By the end of next month, TraceTogether tokens for all residents aged seven and above will be available at all community centres and TraceTogether mobile booths islandwide. All you have to do is show your original ID with a barcode. For a full list of locations, head on to token.gowhere.gov.sg.
