The June school holidays are just slightly over a month away, and if you’re a parent, you’re probably looking forward to some family fun time with the kiddos while they get a break from the books. An overseas trip might even be on the cards. Haven’t decided where to go? Booking.com has just revealed a list of the top 10 trending destinations for Singapore families during the June 2025 school holidays, so you can take inspiration from the most popular picks. But if you and your fam prefer going against the grain, then consider this a list of places to skip in order to escape the crowds.

It's unsurprising, really – with 691,100 Singaporeans visiting it in 2024, Japan remains a top choice for families this June, retaining its number one position from last year. The overtourism issue in Japan is all too real, but it’s worth straying away from the usual big three of Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, and venturing to other prefectures instead. We recommend exploring the underrated Hokuriku region, now made more accessible via a new Shinkansen route.

Second most popular is Australia, which was also one of the top three for last year’s June holiday ranking for Singaporeans. We’ll let you in on a little secret: Instead of being stuck on a seven- to eight-hour flight to Melbourne or Sydney, you can jet off to the coastal region of Broome in just four hours, thanks to a brand new direct flight route from Singapore.

Next is Malaysia, which has been bumped down one spot this year, essentially swapping places with Australia since last year. With Johor Bahru just a quick bus or train ride across the Causeway, Malaysia remains ever-popular for Singaporeans seeking a quick, easy, and affordable getaway. This is made even more convenient with a couple of new bus services that take you directly from Singapore to Johor Premium Outlets. Afraid of getting stuck in a jam? Check out our guide on the best times to travel to JB from Singapore so that you can get across the border in the quickest possible time.

Most of the rest of the list names other countries in Asia – apart from United Kingdom (#8) and Italy (#10). One standout is China (#6), which has climbed three spots from last year’s ninth place.

Interestingly, Singapore is also on the list (#9), which suggests that plenty of families here are also looking to hang out within our own hometown with staycations. Some newer ones that have recently opened in Singapore include The Standard, a stylish boutique hotel with Hollywood roots; Mandai Rainforest Resort with luxe treehouse pods; and Raffles Sentosa Singapore, an all-villa resort. For something unorthodox, try spending a night in a retired SBS bus or a decommissioned MRT train, both of which come with all the comforts like proper beds and bathroom facilities.

This list is based on statistics from families in Singapore with two adults and minimum one child, for searches for accommodation made on Booking.com over the first few months of the year, covering check-in dates from May 31, 2025 to June 29, 2025. This coincides with Singapore’s official June school holiday period, which starts the weekend of May 31 and carries on till Sunday, June 29 before the new school term starts on June 30.

Speaking of Japan, we also have a list of the five cheapest, less-frequented places in Japan where you'll be less likely to run into fellow Singaporeans who are also trying to escape our city for a bit.
