Picture massive data centres housing the technology that powers your favourite streaming services, online games, and AI tools, and scenes from sci-fi movies or themes from The Matrix might come to mind. If you’re curious about how these systems work in reality, then you’re in luck. Global data platform company Digital Realty, together with the nonprofit organisation My Community, will be organising tours for all to step into their data centres for the first time ever. Attendees will be able to understand how data travels around the globe and the role they play in keeping our internet world functioning 24/7.
Led by employee volunteers from Digital Realty’s data centre operations team and Singapore Tourist Board-trained tour guides, the tour will dive into the role of these data centres in today’s digital landscape. Find out how artificial intelligence (AI) works through their new developments, venture through their data hall, and uncover how data centres are designed to be sustainable through its solar panel project and carbon emission-reducing initiations. There will also be a Q&A with a Digital Realty employee who will be able to provide deeper insights on how it’s like behind the scenes as a Data Centre expert.
Tours are scheduled to run on August 24, September 28, October 26, and November 21, at Digital Realty’s Loyang 2 (SIN12) data centres, from 10am to noon. Participants have to be 16 years old and above, and limited tickets are priced at $20 each. For more information, check out their webpage here.
