If you've ever wondered what it's like to tumble down the Rabbit Hole, Wonderland Upside Down by ANDSOFORTH is here to make that fantasy a very trippy reality. And yes, that includes things I never thought I’d willingly eat like toothpaste, mouthwash, and cat food. But more on that later.
In celebration of its 10th anniversary this year, the award-winning immersive theatrical dining company has created an experience that’s part dinner party, part fever dream, and entirely unlike your childhood memories of Alice in Wonderland. Instead of a waistcoat-wearing White Rabbit or the quirky Mad Hatter, you’ll meet the real people who inspired Lewis Carroll’s eccentric characters. But things aren’t always as it seems.
The adventure begins at The Hatter’s Asylum, a hat shop where I was handed a welcome drink and a fun little DIY project. As I crafted away, orchestral covers of pop bangers played in the background – think Bridgerton, but delightfully unhinged. Then, it was time to tumble deeper into the Rabbit Hole.
Every room was a new surprise, from stunning set designs including a massive animatronic black cat to the wildly entertaining cast who weren’t afraid to roast us guests. The five-course dinner was just as theatrical – one moment I was slurping a rich Chinese-style soup, the next, digging into a fragrant Indian chicken korma. Then came the curveballs: salmon-based cat food, cream cheese toothpaste with crackers, and a sweet treat drizzled in red paint. Sounds questionable? Maybe. Delicious? Absolutely.
Between bites of surreal dishes and getting my fortune read (because, why not?), I realised Wonderland Upside Down is exactly what immersive theatre and dining experience should be: playful, unpredictable, and just a little bit mad.
Tickets start at $168 on Thursdays through Mondays, with family-friendly sessions on Sundays. The exact location is only revealed 24 hours before your visit. But let’s be real – if you’re already considering dining in Wonderland, you're more than ready for a little mystery. Book your tickets here.
