Get ready to queue – Japanese retailer Uniqlo is rolling out its AIRism range of face masks in Singapore on August 24. Uniqlo decided to launch the face masks internationally, following the wild response it garnered – we're talking people running while queuing – when it first went on sale in Japan. Since it's still a mandatory requirement to wear a mask when out and about in Singapore, we're predicting long queues and quick sales here too.
The AIRism mask is three-ply, with the centre layer acting as a filter that delivers a bacterial filtration efficiency of 99 percent, blocking bacteria and pollen. Sandwiching the filter is the highly breathable, fast-drying AIRism material that we're familiar with. Silky smooth and light on the skin, AIRism is a common staple in the brand’s apparel line, mostly used for light and airy T-shirts and undergarments.
The masks are reusable and also machine-washable (unlike other reusable masks). The filter will still retain its efficacy even after washing. It comes in three sizes and in two colours – black and white. The masks are sold in a pack of three and retails at $14.90. If you're thinking of stocking up, the daily purchase limit per person is one pack of AIRism Mask for every size and colour.
