With not much to do in the 'going out' aspect in Singapore, we fully hope that everyone is busy keeping up with the Olympic Games in Tokyo. It's been a rollercoaster ride for Team Singapore so far and definitely some tremendous sporting moments to remember across all the sports we've participated in. Let's take a look at the highlights of the Olympics so far.
Table Tennis
Star athlete Yu Mengyu's fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics women’s singles event is one to remember. She played a fierce match with Japan's Kasumi Ishikawa and then went against world number one China's Chen Meng for a chance at the finals. While her singles journey has ended, the Singapore paddlers will be playing in the team event on August 2. You can watch the match on streaming platform, MeWatch.
Sailing
A sailing regatta might not exactly be a fast-paced (and dramatic) event – especially if you're used to watching other events like table tennis, fencing, diving and swimming. But that doesn't mean it's not worth tuning in. Besides, we know have a reason to – the Singapore team of Kimberly Lim and Cecilia Low finished ninth overall in the women's 49er FX event to qualify for a medal race on August 2. They will be the first Singaporeans to do so. The race will be telecast on MeWatch on August 2.
Swimming
A lot can be said after Singapore's performance in the swimming events of the Tokyo Olympics but in hindsight, it is pretty surreal and a huge achievement to be representing Singapore alongside some of the world's best swimmers. No medals for Singapore this year but it's not the end.
Badminton
Despite a fierce fight, Singapore's Loh Kean Yew fell to Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in a men's singles badminton group stage match on July 28. Though he is eliminated from the Olympics, Loh put up a good fight against the world number seven player and kept pace with his opponent for a good half of the match.
Athletics
Singapore sprinter Shanti Pereira completed her heats in the women's 200m event but will not be advancing to the finals.
Shooting
Singapore shooter Adele Tan finished 21st out of 50 (only the top eight qualify for the finals) for her debut at the Olympics. The 21-year old finished with 625.3 which is an average of 10.4 per shot. In the segment, each shooter takes 60 shots and each of these shots has a maximum score of 10.9.
