Amid our planet’s climate chaos, one artist imagines a sea of hope. Opening on September 21, Cesar Jung-Harada: An Ocean City Imagined at ArtScience Museum offers a glimpse into a future where humanity thrives alongside nature.
Dive into life-sized models of cutting-edge ocean technologies, crafted by Cesar Jung-Harada, the museum's inaugural ArtScientist-in-Residence. With a decade of research, this French-Japanese scientist, known for his invention of wind-powered robots and study on biodiversity impacts of radioactive leaks in Fukushima, presents renewable solutions that merge innovation, tradition, and a deep connection to our oceans.
In An Ocean City Imagined, Cesar’s ideas take shape through large-scale installations, centred around the ‘International Ocean Station’ – an ambitious speculative design for a floating city referencing Singapore and its nearby geography, inspired by the International Space Station. This futuristic city will show us alternative ways of living after we have fallen victim to the negative effects of climate change.
Visitors will be able to walk through the floating installation, and take in all angles of the infrastructure. There’ll also be two other important elements accompanying the International Ocean Station: the ‘Ocean Solar Hydrogen’, serving as a clean energy generator that can power ocean cities, and an ‘Ocean Train’, a type of sea transport.
Running alongside the exhibition is a series of programmes featuring conversations, storytelling sessions and hands-on activities, where you’ll get to find out more about the exhibition from the art-scientist himself.
An Ocean City Imagined is also featured as part of ArtScience Museum’s Ocean Tech Week, an event focused on the future of oceans and shaping a sustainable, thriving world. Visitors can explore ocean innovations and conservation efforts through an array of programmes including films, talks, and workshops.
