Singaporeans are a stoic bunch for the most part, but there are certain things that we (comically) go absolutely ham for – Hello Kitty and cherry blossoms are some of them. Don’t lie, you’ve found yourself searching for flights to Japan during sakura season on more than one occasion. But if you didn’t manage to snag those tickets to Tokyo – or any of these Asian cities which also sport the gorgeous blooms – there are still ways to get into the mood here in Singapore.
On top of activities like visiting a sakura flower display or sakura festival, you can also get your hands on cute cherry blossom-themed merch and menu items, as part of Starbucks' Spring collection. Here’s a look at what to expect, from lifestyle merchandise to sakura-themed drinks, desserts and more.
Cherry blossom-themed merchandise in Singapore
There are over 20 items in Starbucks’ Cherry Blossom Collection, most of which are drinkware, except for some accessories like cup holder sleeves, a glass shaker for creating beverages, a Starbucks Bearista bear keychain in a deer costume, and a Spring Starbucks card.
This year’s Cherry Blossom Collection takes on pretty hues of pale pink and baby blue, with decals of spotted deer and birds. Some highlights include a Stanley Quencher in a pink-and-white gradient with a sakura flower straw topper, and a thermal water bottle in the same colourway. You can also check out other items like straw tumblers, water bottles, and a range of cups and mugs.
Notably, this year’s Starbucks Singapore Spring collection differs from Starbucks Japan’s first and second cherry blossom merch drops launched in February, so you can be sure that these items are exclusively available in Singapore.
Prices for the Cherry Blossom Collection have yet to be announced, so watch this space closely for updates.
Limited-time sakura-themed menu items
On top of the merch drop, Starbucks is also introducing an extensive line-up of Spring menu items inspired by the cherry blossom season. New on the beverage list are two strawberry mochi creations: the strawberry mochi blossom pure matcha latte (available hot or iced) – a nod to the recent strawberry matcha craze, and the strawberry mochi blossom cream Frappuccino (less sweet).
There’ll also be new cakes to enjoy, including the strawberry blossom cheesecake, mango shortcake, and the signature chocolate cake. All these items are already available in-store and through online orders, except for the mango shortcake, which will be added to delivery platforms on March 17.
