More restrictions have been announced to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Singapore. Starting May 16 until June 13, the current size of social gatherings will be reduced from five to two people. This follows a spike in Covid-19 community cases, said Minister for Education Lawrence Wong on Friday, May 14. A review will be taken after two weeks to see if the measures need to be adjusted further.

Social gatherings limited to two people

The group size will be reduced from the current five people to two persons – this applies to all activities from getting groceries to going for a walk and even dabao-ing food. Additionally, each household can only receive two unique visitors per day, down from five.

In a statement, the task force said that everyone should continue to limit their overall number of social gatherings to not more than two per day – whether to another household or meeting with friends and family members in a public place.

No dining-in allowed

Unfortunately, all dining in will cease, including hawker centres and food courts, indoors and outdoors. Wondering if you can still get your usual cappuccino order at your favourite cafe in the morning? You will have to take that away too.

In the same vein, safe management measures are also tightened for higher risk settings, including places where there is a high density of people who are without masks for a prolonged period.

Work from home as default for workplaces

Work from home arrangements will also be back to being the default. Employers must ensure that employees who are able to work from home do so. If necessary, those who need employees to return to the workplace should have staggered start times and flexible working hours for staff.

And it goes without saying, but social gatherings at the workplace will also not be allowed. Meal breaks can be taken at the workplace, but staff should refrain from intermingling when masks are taken off.
