Brace yourselves this weekend, as possible flash floods may occur between January 10 to 13 due to a monsoon surge that’s expected to hit Singapore. Our national water agency PUB has announced that heavy rain over the next four days might cause drains and canals to overflow temporarily, resulting in flash floods.

Thundery showers and windy conditions are forecasted to last till Monday as strong winds over the South China Sea cause large rain clouds to form over the region. On top of intense downpours, daily temperatures might also fall to a low of 22 degrees in some parts of Singapore.

Flash floods have been a fairly common occurrence in Singapore of late, with three episodes happening in a span of three months last year. You might have caught it on the news, or been caught in one yourself. Either way, if you’re heading out this weekend, your best bet is to put on those waterproof shoes and bring along an umbrella. Oh, and a jacket if you don’t do well in colder weather.

Get updates on potential flood-prone areas on PUB’s Flood Alerts Telegram channel, or the MyENV app. In the meantime, we’ve got some tips on how to spend a rainy day in Singapore
