Here’s another VTL for all who’ve been travel-deprived: Hong Kong – so we can finally check out what’s been happening in Hong Kong since early 2020. While this has been long-awaited, various other countries will also have their own VTLs launched: Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Applications for Vaccinated Travel Pass (VTP) will open at 10am on Feb 22.
There’s more good news too. While Singapore had previously reduced VTL quotas for travel during the Omicron outbreak, the quota for land VTLs between Singapore and Malaysia will be restored from Feb 22.
To integrate travel back into our everyday life, Singapore will also be streamlining their border measures. They’ll be merging their current travel categories of II, III, and IV into a “General Travel” category, while Category I (countries including Macao, Mainland China, and Taiwan) will have access to quarantine-free travel.
Other border measures have also been enhanced to run more efficiently, so you can expect less quarantine delays:
- Travel history requirement will be reduced from 14 to seven days
- Stay-home notice will be standardised to seven days
- VTL and Category I travellers do not need to go through a PCR test – instead, they can take a supervised ART at a testing centre
- Vaccinated long-term pass holders do not have to obtain a VTP to enter Singapore
With Singapore finally slackening their travel restrictions, we’re all looking forward to an overseas trip – it’s been well-deserved, with most of us not having stepped foot into an aeroplane for more than two years.
