Play your part when dining out or businesses will suffer

Keeping to safety measures when dining out is a shared responsibility between F&B owners and diners

While it’s easy to get excited at the prospect of dining out once again during Phase 2 of Singapore's reopening plans, it’s also worthwhile to note that Covid-19 is still a threat as reflected by our Doscorn Orange status – the second-highest level of alert. We need to stay vigilant and comply with the safety measures in place.

This is a shared responsibility between both food and beverage (F&B) owners and diners alike – and ensures that everyone can continue to enjoy the benefits of dining out. Just last weekend, two F&B outlets, Moonstone and Chico Loco, were ordered to cease operations for allowing the consumption of alcohol on their premises after 10.30pm. In a Facebook post, Moonstone shares that “there is no grace period” – and hopes that its mistake can serve as a warning to fellow F&B establishments.

“All unconsumed alcoholic beverages must be disposed of by 10.30pm sharp,” it adds.

While F&B establishments have a duty to uphold and keep to the rules, it’s equally important that diners are privy to these measures, too. “An extra 15 mins might not be a long time to you as [a] customer, but it’s this same amount of time that will put the jobs and livelihoods of F&B workers on the line,” says Moonstone.

Most businesses are still dealing with the aftermath of the dine-in rule ban during the circuit breaker and they might be understaffed and lack the manpower to police such rules. As diners, we can easily play our part to help our favourite F&B establishment by:

- Being a little more patient and understanding of newly imposed regulations at various eateries
- Showing up for your reservations
- Consuming and finishing all alcoholic drinks well before 10.30pm

Moonstone's co-founder Jeremy Lim says: “I believe we have made sufficient awareness to the public on these new regulatory measures and a reminder that our fight against the pandemic is not over.”

In the meantime, here’s how else you can support Moonstone while it makes its appeal to open up soon. Deliveries might be put on pause, but the bar is planning to launch a new line of bottled cocktails. “We’ll make the best of this time .. to complete the revamp of our cocktail menu,” shares Jeremy. Its new takeaway cocktail series will also feature labels designed by local artist Tan Yang Er.

Additionally, Moonstone has also launched merchandise, a t-shirt, on its online store with more designs in the pipeline. Lend the bar your support by heading over to moonstone.sg/lelong, or stay updated by following @moonstone.sg for the latest updates.
