There will now be seven long public holiday weekends in 2023, up from six, following a revision to the date for Vesak Day.
The Ministry of Manpower announced yesterday that Vesak Day will now fall on June 2, Friday, following an announcement by the Singapore Buddhist Federation (SBF) about the revised date. Originally, Vesak Day was on June 3, a Saturday.
For those of us on a five-day work week, there really isn't much difference – we would have gotten a day off in lieu (or salary in lieu) on June 2 anyway, as is required under the Employment Act. But the way we see it, there's no harm being happy about the fact that the Vesak Day long weekend is now official.
And it sounds to us like the universe is telling us one thing – and that's to take a break and travel. Before you book your leave dates, head over here for the updated list of public holidays in Singapore in 2023. Need some inspiration? Whether it's a short day trip from Singapore, a weekend beach getaway, or somewhere off the beaten path, we've got you covered.
