Nifty Fifty is a new series where the Time Out Singapore team spends $50 any way they want around town – and we share the experience. Whether it's a secret joint for a boozy night out, a budget (but ace) omakase place or an interesting item we've been eyeing at the shops, we let you in on the cool stores, eateries, places and activities you should be spending at.

This month, our writer Pailin spent $50 on a Japanese omakase meal from Torimaro ($39 for March only).

Verdict: These days, a fully-fledged omakase meal will more often than not set you back hundreds of dollars. But at Japanese restaurant Torimaro, I paid just $39 for their omakase and my experience was 10/10 – it certainly felt like I got my money’s worth. No fancy theatrics or lavish ingredients here, but from the yakitori skewers to the chicken sukiyaki hot pot, each course was flawless.

Remember that an omakase is essentially the chef’s choice, so you might not wind up with the exact same dishes as me. For April only, they’re having another special omakase promo: a six-course Okinawan menu at $49 per person. That's still under $50 – so I think it's still worth checking out.

Try it yourself by booking through their Instagram or Facebook.
