Our Little Red Dot may be small, but we sure aren’t short on hiking trails. We’ve got the Rail Corridor, Fort Canning Park, and the unmissable Singapore Botanic Gardens, filled with lush greenery and an array of wildlife. As Singapore continues to transform into a City in Nature, more green spaces have opened up, including the new Mandai Mangrove and Mudflat Nature Park and the revamped Bukit Batok Nature Corridor. Both parks are slated to be open to the public in 2028, with viewing decks and boardwalks for nature lovers to check out. Here’s everything you need to know about the two green spaces:
What upgrades are made to Bukit Batok Nature Corridor?
Westies have loads to be excited about with the upgrades made at Bukit Batok Nature Park, Bukit Batok Town Park, and the new Bukit Batok Hillside Nature Park opening in 2028. For those who’ve never made the journey to the West, the nature corridor features 10km of trails connecting Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to the upcoming Tengah Forest Corridor. These same trails and existing streams are getting a facelift with a new boardwalk and observation decks overlooking the quarry, so you can safely peer into the waters to spot the marine residents. Families planning picnics can chill at the new play area or check out the exercise plazas to kick up some sweat. Additionally, new arrival nodes with toilets will be added – a major plus point for big public areas.
What can be expected at the new Mandai Mangrove and Mudflat Nature Park?
NParks shared in October 2018 that Mandai Mangrove and Mudflat will be conserved as a nature park, and is set to be ecologically connected to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Keep your eyes open for over 380 species of wildlife like the oriental pied hornbill, buffy fish-owl and giant mudskippers while you explore the new park.
This 72.8ha nature park is not without its gorgeous views – grab your cameras and head to the two new nodes to admire the panoramic views of the mudflat. Connecting these nodes are coastal trails with wooden bird hides, so avid bird watchers can safely catch sight of native and migratory birds in the mudflat.
