All eyes are on the Michelin Stars full selection announcement on June 25, but while the anticipation is still building up, Michelin is first unveiling its 2024 Bib Gourmand selection. This particular category comprises establishments that serve up delicious yet value-for-money eats.

This year, Singapore welcomes nine new entrants to the Bib Gourmand list and two which were moved from the Michelin Selected category to Bib Gourmand. This brings the total number of Bib Gourmand eateries in Singapore to a whopping 81, from 79 last year and 67 in the previous year

As usual, the list is packed with crowd-favourite hawker stalls known for their rich history and devotion towards time-honoured recipes. “When discussing Singapore’s cuisine, one cannot overlook the integral role of hawker centres. These are not only a part of everyday life for the common people, but also a microcosm of the multi-ethnic society,” says Gwendal Pullennec, the International Director of the Michelin Guide.

Among the new awardees are Jalan Sultan Prawn Mee and Ru Ji Kitchen which were shifted from Selected to Bib Gourmand. The former has a 70-year history and boasts a prawn broth that’s on the lighter side, pleasantly sweet, and infused with natural umami – good enough to give the highly raved Beach Road Prawn Noodle House a run for its money. The ngoh hiang stall adjacent to it is also much deserving of a shout-out, especially for its crisp and airy prawn crackers.

The relatively new beachfront Italian restaurant Fico also makes the list this year, proving that good ambience and good food don’t have to exist independently. Expect a traditional Puglianese spread here, with homemade foccacina, fresh Italian produce, and handmade pasta as highlights.
