Calling all home cooks – could you be the first MasterChef Singapore? The popular cooking competition is looking for aspiring chefs to be a part of the programme. Battle it out in Mystery Box Challenges and Pressure Tests against fellow Singaporeans and you just might take the title home.
The show is set to premiere later this year and contrary to previous reports that it will air on Channel 8, Mediacorp announced that the show will be produced in English and broadcast on Channel 5 instead. The casting call deadline has also been pushed to April 6 so you have until Friday to throw your name in the hat.
Mediacorp revealed that the show was set to air on Channel 8 because it could not secure the rights to air the programme in English. This caused the media company to receive public backlash as it excluded the non-Chinese speaking members of the population from participation. However, following negotiations with rights owner Endemol Shine Group and the high level of interest from the public, Mediacorp is now able to produce the show in English.
This is not the first time Singapore is a part of the MasterChef brand. Singaporean Woo Wai Leong, took home the top spot on MasterChef Asia after beating fellow countryman Lennard Yeong. We hear that Woo plans on opening a restaurant soon so perhaps we have that to look forward to before MasterChef Singapore premieres.
