Soon, residents of Jurong will not need to travel far for a new Billy bookcase, Råskog trolley or Swedish meatballs. Ikea will open its third Singapore outlet in Jem in 2021. The branch is described as a "small-store concept" and will span over three floors in the popular Jurong shopping mall – replacing department store Robinsons which is vacating in August.

The smaller Ikea concept store will be organised in a new way and still include its signature products and affordable space-saving solutions for Singapore homes. Unlike the other two megastores in Tampines and Alexandra, there will be no in-built warehouse on the grounds – but customers can still shop the full Ikea range. Kids need to be on their best behaviour while shopping with the family as there will not be a play area.

More importantly, the well-loved Ikea restaurant is part of the Jem package so Westsiders can drop by and queue for the popular Swedish meatballs, fried chicken wings, Daim cake, salmon lasagne and more. We expect quite the crowd on opening day.

Property & Expansion Director for IKEA Southeast Asia & Mexico, Sebastian Hylving said that Jem was a top pick for a new Ikea outlet as it is one of four malls connected to the Jurong Gateway, linked to public transport and is in the company of other great retail options. He also noted that with many being forced to stay at home during the current 'circuit breaker' period has sparked people's interests to better the home to make it more cosy, comfortable, functional, and also sustainable.

If you've caught the home decorating bug, you still shop for furniture and spruce up your bedroom, kitchen and living room
