We can always count on Chinatown to come through with their amazing light installations during festive periods. And this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival is no exception. As we’re typing this, decorations are already up and running, and they will continue to be till October 2, 2024.

Organised by the Chinatown Festival Committee and supported by Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative Committee, this year’s theme is titled Celebrating Mid-Autumn Across Generations (跨越世代庆中秋). The light-up features an eight-metre high lantern that captures the essence of familial bonds and festive tradition through the depiction of three generations of a family gathering under the moonlight. This display stretches across New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street, South Bridge Road, and Upper Cross Street.

Apart from the street light-up, there will also be a series of activities such as the return of the popular ‘Chinatown Lantern Walk’, and an all-new ‘Lantern Riddles’ event, where participants can solve riddles attached to the beautifully crafted lanterns. Each participant will receive a cellophane lantern and a goodie bag filled with delicious traditional Mid-Autumn treats. There will also be a Festival Fair held at the open space in front of People’s Park Complex, alongside family-friendly activities, including free weekend stage shows at Kreta Ayer Square across three dates, and a lantern painting competition.

Similarly, at the end of the festive season, selected street lanterns will be available for adoption by the public as part of Chinatown’s 'Adopt a Lantern' campaign.

Most of the activities require pre-registration. Head on to their website here to check out the full list of happenings, and the respective registration details.
