Homegrown specialty coffee brand Guerilla Coffee now has a third café under its belt. This January, it unveiled its latest 80-seater flagship just beside Kallang Park Connector – the largest outlet to date. The new space sets out to be a haven for coffee lovers where they can select their beans and have them roasted on-site, participate in coffee workshops, try coffee-infused brunch fare, and so on. Here’s a quick breakdown of everything to expect.
The space
Ditch the busy brunch spots in the city for this tranquil space shrouded by lush greenery. Guerilla Coffee’s new location at Kallang Riverside is the perfect setting for quiet weekend brunches after a morning jog by the park or a stroll with your furkid. The café offers both pet-friendly alfresco seating, and indoor seating to beat the heat.
Inside, it’s industrial chic meets rustic charm, with elements like exposed concrete walls, wooden furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light. The space is big enough for holding events, and there are plenty in the works, from chef pop-ups, to bar takeovers, coffee competitions, and more.
The coffee
Caffeine nerds will first have their eyes drawn to the on-site roastery. This dedicated space allows the café to source and roast small batches of premium coffee beans from across the world. Customers can pick from a wide selection of beans and have them roasted in under 15 minutes – that’s as fresh as it gets.
Unlike your regular café, Guerilla also has a separate bar within the space which exclusively serves filter and espresso-based coffee. Here, you can peruse the Slow Bar menu, which is organised similarly to a wine list with regions and tasting notes all carefully denoted for the discerning palate. You’ll find everything from the usual single origins to rare coffee made with beans from prestigious estates that can command around $100 a cup.
Thankfully, not everything on the Slow Bar menu has the same tear-jerking price tag. You can also sip on filter coffee like the Ethiopia Guji Shakiso Natural ($8.20) with delicate floral notes and a pleasant acidity, or try two of Guerilla’s curated blends. And if you don’t mind the splurge, the café is currently offering a trio of exclusive Panamanian beans, including the Lost Origin ($19 per cup), Elida Estate BOP #6 ($68 per cup), and the Aroma Firestone BOP #1 2022 ($88 per cup).
You can try locally-inspired coffee as well, like the Singapore Latte ($6.70) – a modern take on Nanyang coffee with condensed milk, salt, and pepper; or the Straits Latte ($7.20) which contains Gula Melaka and dried coconut.
And if you want the whole shebang, sign up for a one-hour Auction Coffee Discovery Session ($148) to taste all the premium coffees currently available at the bar, prepared using a variety of techniques.
The food
It’s not all coffee here – or rather, it’s coffee in everything here. The coffee-first ethos is woven into the food as well, in the form of an all-day menu with a range of coffee-infused dishes.
Try the Guerilla seasonal butter board (from $18) with house-churned butter topped with seasonal ingredients and house-made coffee salt. For something more filling, the buttermilk chicken waffles ($20) see cereal–style battered chicken over waffle, finished with a drizzle of Guerilla’s espresso maple syrup. And for the sweet-toothed, the tiramisu ($16) is a no-brainer, featuring Guerilla No. 2 espresso and Kahlua.
Guerilla Coffee’s Kallang Riverside flagship is open from Tuesday to Sunday at 01-03, 51 Kampong Bugis, Singapore 338986.
