So many public holidays, so little time. With us corporate slaves having limited annual leave, the key to being able to take multiple holidays in a year all lies in strategic planning, with many of us opting for weekend trips to nearby destinations. With places like Bali, Bintan and Johor Bahru already becoming long done and dusted, restless wanderlusters are in search of more – and you might just find what you’re looking for in Phu Quoc, an underrated island getaway in Vietnam.
And with low-cost airline Vietjet’s new direct flight route between Singapore and Phu Quoc, getting your fix of the sun, sand and sea is now more accessible than before. According to Vietjet, one-way promotional fares start from just $86, excluding baggage but inclusive of taxes and other fees – but in order to secure such prices, you’ll have to lock in your booking real quick by April 5, 2025, for trips between April 14, 2025 to March 28, 2026.
Otherwise, the budget airline also has weekly Friday deals where you can enjoy similarly discounted fares for trips till October 25, 2025, so set a reminder on your phone to avoid missing out. The Friday deals are applicable to Vietjet’s other destinations and are not limited to Phu Quoc.

This isn’t the only non-stop between Singapore and Phu Quoc; Scoot also recently launched direct flights to Phu Quoc, as well as Padang in Indonesia and Shantou in China. However, Scoot’s flights are slightly pricier, with a return trip often costing close to $300 at the very least. On the other hand, we did a quick check on Vietjet and found that it’s possible to score a return trip for less than $200, even without promotions and discounts.
The island of Phu Quoc is the perfect holiday spot for beach-lovers, as it’s full of clean stretches of sand surrounded by glittering blue waters. Hop on board the Hon Thom Cable Car – the longest cable car in the world – and admire its beauty from above, or go under the sea with a snorkelling session. There’s even a Starfish Beach where vibrant orange starfish can easily be spotted along the shoreline.
For more animal sightings, visit the Vinpearl Safari, a semi-open zoo where you can dine right next to giraffes. There are also waterfalls, temples, caves, and a pepper farm to explore. When hungry, stop by a food market for local street eats.
There are a total of four Vietjet return trips between Singapore and Phu Quoc each week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flights depart from Changi Airport at 1.05pm and arrive at Phu Quoc International Airport at 1.34pm (local time), while the trip back kicks off from Phu Quoc at 3.45pm and arrives back in Singapore at 6.30pm. Flights begin on May 30, 2025, but bookings are already open. Secure your tickets via Vietjet’s website.
