Ever dined in a restaurant in a colonial building, or driven past one of those iconic black and white state-owned bungalows and thought to yourself, “Wow, wish I could live here”? Yeah, us too. *Cries in broke*

That doesn’t just have to be wistful thinking though – provided you’re in a different tax bracket from us – because a charming detached house at 4 Seton Close is now open for a two-year residential rental lease. Yes, this 100-year-old property harking back to the 1920s is looking for someone to call it home for a temporary period of time.

With two bedrooms and three bathrooms, this roomy two-storey abode sits on a plot of land spanning 30,139 square feet, and was once the residence of Sir Frederick Seton James, a former Colonial Secretary of Singapore. Like many of the other houses in the area, this one has a verandah propped up by grand Tuscan columns, plenty of large windows that allow natural light to stream in nicely, a black-and-white tiled porch, and lush greenery all around.

Needless to say there’s tons of wide, open spaces in its bedrooms and living areas alike, making it a great place to host frou-frou dinner parties to impress important guests. Or perhaps, a Bridgerton-inspired ball. Y'know, just high society things.

Its location within walking distance of the Tanglin end of Orchard is also highly convenient. For some fresh air, simply hop into your car and drive to the Singapore Botanic Garden in just five minutes, or take a relaxing 15-minute stroll there as a more eco-friendly alternative.

Bidding for rental of this bungalow at 4 Seton Close is currently open as of 24 February, 2025, and will close on 28 February at 12pm – find out more and try your luck using a form via Singapore Land Authority’s website if you’ve got deep pockets filled with cash. There’s no starting bid amount stated, but you know how it is – if the price ain’t there, it’s probably hella high. We’d make a Carousell lowballing joke here, but those who are seriously considering renting this house probably don’t use Carousell anyway.

As for the rest of us who aren’t Crazy Rich Asians, well, perhaps splurging on relatively smaller indulgences like dining at new restaurants and enjoying cheap holidays under $500 are more within realistic reach.
