Among the flurry of new restaurants springing up around town, it’s always comforting to find the occasional pastry store popping up among our favourite dessert cafés and bakeries. This October, a Dutch patisserie and chocolatier with a century-long legacy will mark its debut in Singapore with a new concept store featuring a tea room and bar at Raffles Hotel Singapore.
Huize van Wely is a revered institution for desserts in the Netherlands – the brand even has ties with the Dutch Royal Family. Its historic Noordwijk shop has been around since 1922, and it also has retail outlets in Haarlem, Heemstede, Amsterdam Beethoven, and Amsterdam Gelder Square. In 1997, the patisserie launched its first Asian outpost in Jakarta, Indonesia.
And what better place to unveil the first Singapore outlet of the historic brand than in the equally storied Raffles Hotel Singapore? The patisserie will sit on the ground floor of the grand hotel along Seah Street. All eyes will be on Huize van Wely’s signature ‘Champagnecake’ – a decadent almond sponge cake featuring layers of white chocolate, Moët & Chandon champagne cream ganache, and covered in marzipan and a delicate dark chocolate shell. The shop will also offer delightful chocolate bonbons or ‘Bouchées’ that are perfect for gifting. Each morsel is individually layered with ganache, gianduja, or marzipan and coated in chocolate.
Beyond the signature highlights, guests can enjoy ice cream, cakes, fine wines, champagne, and cocktails in the all-day dining establishment. High tea sets will also be available, inclusive of a cocktail and dessert.
An exact opening date for Huize van Wely Singapore has yet to be announced, so stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, find out more about Huize van Wely here.
