Welcome to Da Bao Diaries, a daily column dedicated to what Time Out Singapore's editors are eating and drinking while Singapore's 'circuit breaker' measures are in place till June 1. Da bao is a Singaporean colloquialism derived from Mandarin that refers to having a meal to go instead of dining in at an establishment.
Even when you can’t head out to treat yo’ self, you can still bring the indulgence home. Breakfast in bed? Overrated. We’ll gladly take burgers in bed anytime, complete with some boozy concoctions to wash it all down, all while binging Too Hot To Handle on Netflix.
Famed LA-import, 25 Degrees, brings a selection of its no-nonsense burgers straight to your door. There are six to choose from, but you obviously have to get the Number One ($15) as part of your order. The crowd-favourite comes with an inch-thick Angus beef patty, layered with caramelised onions, creamy crescenza, prelibato, gorgonzola, bacon, and arugula. And as a takeaway-friendly gesture, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions are placed to the side to prevent them from getting soggy as it travels from the kitchen to your mouth.
Looking to switch things up? There’s also the Number Four ($15) where a yellowfin tuna patty, chunky and herby, comes with crispy fried onions and dressed with spicy aioli. Or try the burger sandwiched with crispy buttermilk fried chicken thigh, with pickled daikon and spicy miso sauce to cut through the grease. While your hands are already greasy, grab some 25 Degrees wings ($9) tossed in a finger-licking-worthy spicy sauce, or fill up on truffle french fries ($9).
As part of its take-out menu, you’ll find package deals that feed one ($28, for a burger and beer) to four ($59, for four burgers and two sides). There’s also the option to throw in a bottle of wine for just $25, while orders above $60 get a complimentary bottle of red or white. If you aren't in the mood for wine, a selection of beers and ciders, along with bottled cocktails of sangria ($27) and mimosa ($21) are also available to wash everything down. Pro tip: if you’re heading down for takeaways, bring along your own containers to enjoy a 20 percent discount.
HOW TO ORDER Ring up the restaurant at 6809 7990 if you're planning to swing by for takeaways. Otherwise, 25 Degrees is available for local delivery via Foodpanda. The restaurant is also working on rolling out its island-wide delivery soon.
