If you were thinking of cruising around Singapore’s scenic Marina Bay area as a way to spend your last day of the year – hold up. Cycling enthusiasts would need to keep their two wheels off the pavements in the district this New Year’s Eve, and that includes popular spots like the Helix Bridge and Fullerton stretch. These are part of safety and crowd-control measures, as the area is expecting a massive crowd in anticipation of multiple New Year’s parties and Marina Bay’s annual countdown fireworks.
Cycling will not be allowed at these places in Marina Bay on December 31, 2024:
- Bayfront Event Space
- Helix Bridge
- Jubilee Bridge
- Fullerton (One Marina Boulevard, The Fullerton Bay Hotel, The Clifford Pier, One Fullerton)
- Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza
- Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade
- Raffles Avenue leading to Bayfront Avenue (right behind the NS Square that’s currently under construction)
- The Promontory @ Marina Bay
Check the map at the bottom of this page for an easy visual reference of Marina Bay’s ‘no cycling’ zones this New Year’s Eve.
While we’re at it, here’s a timely reminder that those who drive or are planning on taking cabs in the area should also be aware of the multiple road closures in town – both full and partial.
On the bright side, public transport service timings have been extended on December 31, 2024, with the last train departing as late as 2.15am, and the last bus as late as 3.25am, depending on where you’re boarding and headed to. So even if you aren't armed with your favourite set of wheels, getting home after your NYE parties – and afterparties – shouldn't be too difficult.
In the meantime, there are plenty of other cycling trails in Singapore and new cycling paths to explore if you’re hoping to squeeze in a last joyride before 2024 ends.
The yellow areas on the map denote the ‘no cycling’ zones at Marina Bay:
