Coldplay brought their Music of the Spheres World Tour to Singapore last year in January 2024, delivering a spectacular six-night show – but that wasn't all they were up to. Turns out, they also pulled off a little side quest: secretly filming their latest music video for one of their latest tracks Man in The Moon.
Fans will recognise the song from the extended Full Moon Edition of Coldplay’s latest international No. 1 album, Moon Music. The video, directed by Ben Mor – who also helmed Hymn For The Weekend – was filmed in collaboration with Warner Music Singapore and the Singapore Tourism Board.
“While we were in Singapore, we shot the video and captured some of the amazing, young, vibrant people that we had met. We are interested in shooting things in places we have never filmed before and mixing people up as much as possible. It was really fun to have a kind of dance party out in the middle of the water, just us and the otters," said Coldplay.
The video features Singapore’s iconic cityscape from Marina Bay to Fort Canning Park, as well as other spots including People’s Park Complex, Jewel Changi Airport, Gardens by the Bay, our city’s hawker centres and residential neighbourhoods. And we’re not sure about you guys but to us, there’s something surreal about spotting our own HDB blocks and lesser-known corners of the city in a music video by a world-class artist.
Several Singaporean faces also took the spotlight in the video, representing youths from diverse backgrounds, from striking cosplay artists to bold creatives. Set against Singapore’s vibrant multicultural backdrop, the video nails it – capturing the song’s theme of unity and shared experiences that go beyond individual differences.
