The beautiful art world of French painter Claude Monet is coming to us at Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome on July 12 through the multi-sensorial exhibition Impressions of Monet, co-presented by Gardens by the Bay and Neon.
“Gardens by the Bay’s horticulturists were inspired by Monet’s passion for gardening, which is reflected in some of his most iconic paintings, to recreate scenes from his spectacular garden through a tapestry of horticulture and floral artistry. By partnering with Neon, we hope to marry art, nature, and technology to present to our visitors an experience like no other before,” says Gardens by the Bay CEO Felix Loh.
The exhibition will be separated into two distinct aspects: Impressions of Monet: The Garden and Impressions of Monet: The Experience.
Impressions of Monet: The Garden will transform the Flower Dome’s centre field into scenes of Monet’s renowned garden in his home in Giverny, France. Monet’s iconic pink house will also be recreated alongside its adjoining garden, Clos Normand, as well as the Water Garden – the land at the bottom of Clos Normand. These beautiful landscapes served as inspirations for several of his famous paintings such as The Water Lily Pond (1899)and The Artist's Garden at Giverny (1900).
Plants reminiscent of those found in Monet's original gardens – such as hydrangeas, weeping willows, digitalis, daisies, delphiniums, and geraniums – will also populate Gardens by the Bay to create a vibrant display.
The distinctive green Japanese bridge will also be recreated to pay homage to Monet's Water Garden. Additionally, water lilies will make their debut in the Gardens by the Bay's floral exhibition, a nod to Monet's iconic Water Lilies series.
Impressions of Monet: The Experience will allow visitors to enjoy a multi-sensorial experience honouring the life of Claude Monet, venturing through a space that will treat their senses to visual and auditory delights of the 19th century through the lens of Monet and his Impressionist peers.
Masterpieces will come to life through breathtaking projections on an immense scale, highlighting the bold brushstrokes of artists like Monet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, and others. Visitors will also be able to experience the Impressionists' sources of inspiration via photographs and video displayed alongside their works.
We will be updating this space with more updates, so stay tuned.
