Anti:dote at Fairmont Singapore has come up with yet another gorgeous thematic afternoon tea set. While some of their previous ones were art-themed, inspired by Van Gogh and Claude Monet, this new Adventures in Storyland experience is themed after the fairytale of Cinderella. Though we’re not talking about Disney’s version, but rather, the age-old, classic novel by CS Evans. Hence, instead of cartoon motifs geared towards children, the theme here is brought forth in a more sophisticated manner, through delicately-fashioned treats and storybook decor.
You’ll first spot a larger-than-life open ‘storybook’ welcoming you at the entrance, with an introduction to the fairytale on one page, and the image of Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage on the other. The story of Cinderella is also told in chronological order within the restaurant through custom decals that add to a royal ambience.
The savouries in this high tea set are rather standard just in terms of appearance, with flavoursome items like quail egg and truffle on a butternut bun, smoked salmon with roasted pumpkin and trout roe, and Boston lobster with finger lime sandwiched between charcoal brioche. It’s the sweets that take centre stage for Instagram factor – think a castle-shaped apple sable tart with crumbly bits, a pumpkin-shaped cinnamon tea cake, and a yuzu pastry resembling Cinderella’s glass slipper.
Of course, Anti:dote’s signature buttery Madagascar vanilla scones are also part of the set, served with clotted cream, citrus butter curd, and strawberry marmalade on the side.
For a top-up of $22, wash this filling indulgence with the Carriage Pumpkin Sour cocktail, an easy-to-drink concoction of burnt butter-washed vodka, Calvados brandy, pumpkin spiced cordial, and lemon juice. We’d describe it as sweet, buttery, and slightly zesty – sure to jolt you right awake. Else, go for the Royal Highball mocktail containing blueberry and sage, at no extra charge.
This Adventures in Storyland Cinderella-themed afternoon tea at Anti:dote is priced at $68 per person, inclusive of two non-alcoholic beverages (coffee, tea, or a mocktail), and will be running daily until April 30, 2024. Seatings are held from 3pm to 5pm daily, with additional slots from 12pm to 2pm on weekends. Users of the National Library Board (NLB) app can enjoy 10 percent off when presenting their eCard.
