Choon Kee Hainanese Coffee, a popular coffee brand from Taiping, Malaysia, will be coming to Singapore for the first time this week. It will be holding a week-long pop-up from August 23 to September 2 at Great Nanyang in 111 Somerset. Fans and curious folks alike will have a chance to try its coffees and teas crafted from a 70-year-old recipe.
The family-run heritage business started in 1955 as a humble roadside stall run by Foo Kuang, and later on his son Foo Boon Chuang. It gained a steady following over the decades and is well-loved for popularising interesting beverage combinations like barley kopi and teh, as well as the Haikou Breeze – a mojito inspired by the Himalayan salt candy.
Now, the brand is helmed by third-generation business owner Foo Swee Yong. It maintains a flagship outlet in Taiping and frequently holds pop-ups across bazaars in Kuala Lumpur at locations like Pingmin market and Halo market. Foo himself will be flying down to Singapore to personally serve the brand’s famed drinks to customers.
Three of Choon Kee’s drinks series will be offered at the Singapore pop-up, namely the Barley Series, Choon Kee Special Series, and the Choon Kee Mojito Series. Get a taste of the unique barley kopi teh ($6.80) and Haikou Breeze ($6.80), or other special combinations like black tea and coffee ($5.80), or the KTM (kopi, teh, and Milo) ($6.80).
