If you’ve been to Chinatown, you would know that the district is a living, breathing storybook of Singapore’s rich heritage. And this March, you’re invited to step right into the pages with the Five Footway Festival 2025, running from March 14 to 23, 2025. Expect a lively mix of performances, workshops, exhibitions, and traditional games that will bring the stories of Chinatown to life.
Get an exclusive peek behind the curtain at the Hand Puppet Craft Showcase by Paper Monkey Theatre and find out how these stunning puppets are created. While you’re at it, keep your eyes peeled for the Stilt Walkers who’ll be parading through Chinatown.
History buffs will enjoy the Chinatown Theatrical Tour: Letter Writer’s Lament, where you’ll step into the 1940s with the story of Ace Wan, a young immigrant turned Chinese letter writer. The tour takes you deep into Chinatown’s past, immersing you in its stories and traditions.
Don’t miss the Five-Footways Exhibition either, a deep dive into the iconic five-footways of Chinatown, created in collaboration with Sun Yat-Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall and Hwa Chong Institution. This exhibition unravels the trades and traditions that have made these walkways a cornerstone of Chinatown life.
Finally, take a stroll through time at the Chinatown Heritage Centre, where you can step into a perfectly recreated 1950s Chinatown shophouse. It’s the only place in Singapore where you can experience the everyday lives of Chinatown’s early residents.
And of course, that’s not all. Check out the full programme itinerary here.
