The past year probably has had us reminiscing on how easy it was to travel to our neighbouring countries for a holiday pre-pandemic. Taking off just for the weekend for a holiday in Indonesia, Malaysia or Thailand feels like a past life now. But hey, for those who have been dreaming of living a digital nomad life in the Land of Smiles, here's news that Thailand is reopening its borders for vaccinated tourists to certain provinces this October.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand has announced that from October 1, fully vaccinated foreign travellers will be able to visit Bangkok and four other provinces (including Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan) without undergoing two weeks' hotel quarantine. This move comes two months after the country first reopened its borders under the Phuket 'Sandbox' scheme.
Want to know more? Here are the measures to follow under the sandbox scheme: tourists will have to stay within a certain area for seven days after arrival and take Covid-19 tests. If proven successful, more destinations will be added to the list later in October – including Chiang Rai, Sukhothai and seaside destination Rayong.
However, do take note that countries like Britain and the United States have warned against travel to Thailand because of rising case numbers and low vaccination rates. There are also no existing travel lanes between Singapore and Thailand – so you will have to serve (and pay for) your quarantine at a dedicated government facility upon arrival in Singapore.
