It’s a post-pandemic phenomenon – people are travelling more than ever, despite flight prices being at an all time high these days. And one destination that’s constantly on many Singaporeans’ minds right now is none other than Japan. While a regular two-way economy flight via the likes of Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines (JAL), and All Nippon Airways (ANA) can hit the four-digit range these days, there’s now a new wallet-friendly option to put on your radar: Air Japan.
Air Japan is a budget airline under ANA, and it’s essentially a direct competitor to JAL’s relatively new low-cost carrier, ZipAir. Though Air Japan’s history harks back to 1990, where it was first launched as a charter carrier, it ceased operations some years later. It eventually relaunched in 2001, and went through a rebranding process in 2022 as a low-cost airline.
Recently, Air Japan announced a new Singapore-Tokyo route via the Boeing 787-8 airplane, slated to operate between Changi Airport and Narita International Airport starting from April 26, 2024.
Air Japan’s flight schedule between Singapore and Tokyo
There are a total of 10 weekly Air Japan flights operating between Singapore and Tokyo’s Narita Airport – i.e. five per week in each direction. These flights are scheduled for Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Outbound flights from Singapore depart at 12.55am and land in Tokyo at 9.10am, while outbound flights from Tokyo depart at 5.35pm and land in Singapore at 23.55pm. There are no alternative timings, and no flights that land at or depart from Tokyo’s other major airport, Haneda Airport.
These timings are most ideal for Singaporean travellers who enjoy sleeping through night flights and waking up in a different country – as well as those who prefer a less rushed commute to the airport after checking out of their hotels to head home.

Fans of Japanese cuisine will be delighted to know that Air Japan’s in-flight meals are mostly Japanese-style bentos, including an omakase sushi box, hamburger steak with rice gratin, and teriyaki salmon, among plenty others. There’s even an adorable Kawaii Lunch Box with its various components styled to look like animals, flowers, and heart motifs – one that both young and young and heart will love. Prices range from JPY1400 to JPY1800 (rougly $12.50 to $16). Check out the full list of available dishes here.
Air Japan does offer in-flight Wi-Fi, but this comes with additional charges of USD6.95 (~S$9.34) for 30 minutes, USD16.95 (~S$22.76) for three hours, or USD21.95 (~S$29.48) for up to 24 hours.

Aside from the new Singapore-Tokyo route, Air Japan also has existing Bangkok-Tokyo and Seoul-Tokyo routes that go to and from Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Korea’s Incheon International Airport respectively.
