The brilliant legacy of the late composer and producer Ryuichi Sakamoto lives on, and this upcoming concert KAGAMI at the Esplanade Theatre is a powerful testament to his enduring influence.
Produced together with mixed reality experience studio Tim Drum, KAGAMI is not your average concert. During the concert, audiences will wear optically transparent devices that will project an augmented Sakamoto performing at the piano, while dimensional art elements unfold synchronously, accompanied with specially designed stage lighting. You’ll be able to move around the space to observe him up close, interact with the multimedia elements, or take a seat to enjoy the show.
The word kagami translates to ‘mirror’ in Japanese, and it is one of Sakamoto’s final works. This special production will hit close to home from most fans through the showcase of his solo piano works – capturing the essence of Sakamoto’s artistry and intimate musical expression. Other compositions that fans will be able to enjoy include Energy Flow and Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, along with rarely played pieces, such as the unreleased track BB, dedicated to director Bernardo Bertolucci.
