Wave 'em jazz hands as Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay returns with toe-tappin’, finger-snappin’ musical bliss. Celebrating all that jazz – and its diverse subgenres and outfits –the annual Jazz in July makes its online debut from July 8 to 31. Its 13th edition features performances by the coolest cats from the jazz canon, all filmed live – albeit without an audience – and streamed from the Esplanade Concourse.
Instead of jazz trios and big bands à la previous years' showcases, expect intimate duets that encapsulate the sensitivity, openness and trust in a musical friendship. Look forward to 24 unique pairings by 43 Singapore-based, jazz stalwarts including emerging Mosaic Jazz Fellows mentorship alumni and esteemed veterans.
Revel in the sweet sounds of Louis Soliano and Jonathan Saiman as they deliver their renditions of jazz classics including Neil Sedaka's Laughter In Rain and Nat King Cole's When Sunny Gets Blue. Explore the meaning of love in a celebration of beloved torch songs from The Great American Songbook with Siti Nur Iman & Lee Ann Gie. Discover a selection of originals and favourite jazz standards put together by vocalist Rani Singam and pianist Chok Kerong. Wind down with Edmund Wuu and Rachma Lim as they perform jazz ballads such as Parker’s Quasimodo, a re-imagination of Gershwin’s Embraceable You, and Tony Bennett’s The Shadow of Your Smile.
Each performance is streamed live on Esplanade Offstage and Esplanade's Facebook page at 8pm daily, with vocal performances from Saturdays to Mondays and instrumental duos during the rest of the week. Each performance is available for 24 hours after its premiere. For the full programme lineup, visit esplanade.com.
