If you missed Non-Aligned while the doors were still opened at the NTU CCA, here's your chance to catch it – virtually, that is. As the physical space shuts indefinitely, the films are going online for a limited time only. NTU CCA has put together a line-up of thought-provoking programmes that looks into the discourses behind its current exhibition Non-Aligned, including the postcolonial process across different historical and geopolitical contexts.
From May 15 to 20, catch the online screening of Isaac Julien's Frantz Fanon: Black Skin White Mask via ntu.ccasingapore.org. The film interrogates the life and work of Frantz Fanon, a highly influential anti-colonial writer, civil rights activist, and psychoanalytic theorist from Martinique. Presented in the form of a docudrama, it is interspersed with archival footage of Fanon, alongside interviews with family members and colleagues. Through excellent storytelling, the film is rooted in the black arts movement in Britain and North America, reflecting on the black body and its representations.
If you're unfamiliar with Isaac Julien's work, this online screening serves as a great introduction. The filmmaker is known for his multiscreen film installations and photographs incorporating different artistic disciplines to create a poetic and unique visual language, with his works shown in solo shows and various biennales internationally. Notably, his documentary-drama, Looking for Langston (1989) garnered him a cult following.
