Trading its ultra-chic shophouse digs for the decidedly more visible surrounds of Tanjong Pagar Road, Speakeasy has managed to retain many of the elements that made it bar-world’s best-kept secret: the Prohibition-era cocktails, the plush and cosy interior (now expanded into dining room-style grandeur), and the delightfully friendly service from Valerie Lange and her team. The whisper-it seclusion of its former location has inevitably fallen by the wayside, but if anything this still-classy, super-friendly sequel just off Duxton feels more accessible than its predecessor, having branched out into lunchtime set meals, evening drinks deals and even Sri Lankan speciality brunches at weekends. A delight at any time of the day or night.
