With an appropriate orange-clad décor, Amber Nectar beer bar looks to challenge the wine and spirits stronghold of the Robertson Quay area, offering old world brews with labels from Germany and Belgium. On the roster is Hofbräu, known around the world for its long history and association with the popular Oktoberfest in Munich, along with Aecht Schlenkerla’s selection of heady smoked beers and Abbaye de Rocs’ Belgian styles. Ex-engineer owners Paul and Leonard Tan fell in love with Belgium and Germany’s technical brews while on business trips overseas and decided to work out importing contracts with the breweries there. With Amber Nectar, they’re hoping to draw in Robertson Quay’s loyal football crowd with their offering of superior beers and standard bar snacks. Craft beer fans looking for beer sold in takeaway growlers, keep tabs – Amber Nectar plans to roll out a programme by the end of the year, offering even more tapped brews to go.
