The coolest kid on the cinema scene has come through with a new pop-up concept at Riverside Point. The Projector is bringing its edge to an abandoned Chinese nightclub, transforming it into a 48-seater cinema and bar complete with stellar films in a neon-lit space, a bar with a 'siam diu' (Thai-themed disco) inspired menu and views of the Singapore River.
Projector X: Riverside is the first stop in a string of planned pop-ups (which are still hush hush), and will be taking over the space in Clarke Quay for 18 months only. Catch your favourite films in the new cinema hall – once a dancefloor, it's now bedazzled with neon lights and art from Mojoko. Seats are socially distanced, and you'll be listening to the movie through provided bluetooth headphones.
In true disco spirit, the opening film is Glen Goei's Forever Fever, starring Adrian Pang showing off his musical and kung fu chops. Other films include Kinky Boots The Musical and Oscar Best Picture winner Nomadland. Tickets are now on sale at theprojector.sg, starting at $18.50 for a standard ticket and special rates for fanclub members. Seats are sold in pairs, so bring a friend.
While you're there, check out the Riverside bar. Paying homage to the location's siam diu past, the bar is offering inspired small plates and sharing platters starring the likes of tempeh chips and crab cake burgers. Wash it down with draft beers from Rocky Ridge brewery, bottled draft beers, natural wines and Sunday Punch cocktails.
