On April 13, three groups of Time Out readers joined us for a fun night out where we zoomed around town on a minibus to five bars and sampled some ten unique concoctions. Each bar put their own spin on the aromatic Chivas Mizunara blended scotch whisky and served up two wonderful cocktails which our readers could choose from. Conversation flowed as freely as the drinks and by the last bar, everyone was eager to discuss all the cocktails they had sipped on during the bar hop. Verdict: they were all equally good.
The five bars we dropped by are Ah Sam Cold Drinks Stall, Nutmeg and Clove, Smoke and Mirrors, Roxy and MO Bar. The readers had an umami bomb at Ah Sam with two savoury cocktails (Oooh-Mami and Mizu-Dashi); Nutmeg and Clove sweetened the night with cocktails made with white grape vinegar and cherry blossom syrup (Grapeful Blossom), and peach shiso liqueur and miso caramel (The Big Fuku). There's nothing better than elevated cocktails – Gimme Shelter and (I Can't Get No) Satisfacion – at Roxy, which plays classic rock all night.
Smoke and Mirror was a classy affair with two refreshing tipples (Kaizen and I Got It From My Grandma). With excellent views of the bay and the Padang, this was also one popular photo stop with our readers. MO Bar's hospitality and elegant drinks (Mizu and Nara) made all the guests feel welcome and we couldn't help but to stay a little longer in the plush seats. On top of the drinks, everyone had the pleasure of trying out some amazing bar bites each bar had served up – no one is going to be drinking on an empty stomach! In between the stops, our readers were whisked around in comfy minibuses so no one had to worry about traffic or navigation woes.
