If there’s one cocktail event that’s getting us excited this year, it’s the World Class Bartender of the Year Singapore competition. Returning for its 16th edition after a six-year hiatus, this electrifying showdown is taking over the city’s standout bars with flair, finesse, and cocktails so good they’ll make you rethink your usual order.

But this isn’t just any bartending competition. Singapore’s finest go head-to-head for the coveted title of World Class Bartender of the Year and a shot at representing the nation at the World Class Global Finals in Toronto this September. This year, there’s a total of 41 bartenders with their eyes on the prize.

To win the hearts of the judges (and you), they’ll have to craft innovative cocktails with some of the best spirits in the game – Johnnie Walker, Don Julio, Zacapa, Tanqueray, and The Singleton.

Kicking off in style

The competition kicked off in style early this month at The Singapore Edition Hotel, where industry insiders, cocktail connoisseurs, and curious tipplers gathered to celebrate the launch, including the reveal of all participating bartenders. The Punch Room hosted an exclusive Johnnie Walker Blue Label Blue Hour takeover, while The Wonder Room served up crafted cocktails featuring Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Zacapa XO, Don Julio 1942, Tanqueray No. 10, and The Singleton 12. And because one party isn’t enough, the festivities continued with a sensational takeover at the Edition Lobby Bar by World Class Singapore past winners and legends Bannie Kang from Side Door, Peter Chua from Night Hawk, and Jerrold Khoo from Stay Gold Flamingo, where the guest shifts kept spirits high. If you missed it, don’t worry – we’ve captured moments here.

Meet the top 41 bartenders

With bars regularly topping Asia’s 50 Best Bars and The World’s 50 Best Bars lists, Singapore has become a global powerhouse for craft cocktails. Whether you’re at sleek hotel lounges or experimental drinking dens, expect these bartenders to push boundaries with bold flavours, innovative techniques, and impeccable hospitality. And if you need proof? Just look at past winner Bannie Kang, then head bartender of ANTI:DOTE, who took home the World Class global title in 2019. She’s since opened Side Door on Neil Road, where she continues to solidify Singapore’s reputation for bartending brilliance.

This year, 41 contenders are stepping up to prove their prowess, hailing from internationally recognised bars and up-and-coming establishments alike.
