Conceptualised by the team behind the award-winning cocktail bar, Nutmeg & Clove, Last Word is a cocktail bar hidden away from the prying eyes. Located in Purvis street, the menu seeks to rekindle the romance of classic cocktails with an unpretentious curation of the best classic cocktails and simple Japanese fare to pair.
Definitely not a space to visit if all you’re looking for is to wow your IG fans. But if seriously finessed tipples are what you’re looking for, this is it. Inspired by the Japanese way of bartending with an emphasis on precision and utilising the freshest produce, expect classic takes on luscious sours, spirit-forward stiffer, refreshing highballs, and bubbly champagne.
Well if you didn’t already know, Last Word is actually a cocktail – seemingly forgotten by all after the 1950s – that was invented in the 1920s Prohibition Era that is downright delicious. Distinctively known for drinking refreshingly tart yet subtly sweet and herbaceous, the inclusion of Green Chartreuse – a French liquor flavoured with 130 different herbs made by Carthusian Monks – is what gives the Last Word the edging factor. With that said, you haven’t really been to Last Word without ordering the Last Word.
Other worthy mentions are the Japanese inspired Bloody Mary and the classic Martini. The former uses fresh Japanese tomatoes, togarashi spice and a lick of wasabi while the latter is a super dry yet comfortably stiff drink that also happens to be founder Colin Chia’s infamous bread and butter.
Looking for spontaneity? You’d be pleased to find out about a small menu that is dedicated to the finest seasonal ingredients the team can get their hands on and it only features not more than five drinks at any single time.
