The National Gallery Singapore welcomes all art types to celebrate the genius creativity of Chinese painter Wu Guanzhong who is known for seamlessly blending Chinese ink and Western modernism. The latest exhibition demonstrates his position as an influential art educator through the artistic exchange between him and his students at the Central Academy of Art & Design who attended his outdoor sketching classes. Together, they birthed new artistic styles from formalist aesthetics and individualistic experimentations. These are presented through sketches by Wu, selected drawings by his students and rare archival material including photographs, manuscripts, notes and art journals that document Wu’s beliefs on art education and his pedagogical concepts.
