Marina Bay Sands is bringing back Where Art Takes Place for its second edition from January 18 to 28, 2024. At this festival, expect nothing short of an exciting lineup of art activities and showcases throughout platforms for both art enthusiasts and the wider community alike.
The event starts off strong with Art SG, Southeast Asia’s largest art fair, held at Sands Expo & Convention Centre. Uncover over 100 international galleries from 33 countries showcasing both emerging and pioneering contemporary artists, all gathered in one location.
Alongside the fair, there will also be a curated film showcase at the ArtScience Cinema by seventeen artists hailing from around the globe. Curated by Sam I-shan, some of the film highlights include Waiting for Commercials by Nam June Paik and Jud Yalkut, Songs for Dying by Korakrit Arunanondchai, and Future Shock: The End of Eternity by Su Hui-Yu.

There are also two ongoing exhibitions at the ArtScience Museum that visitors can enjoy during the festival: Mars: The Red Mirror brings you through a journey of 12,000 years of culture, art, history and science about the planet Mars while New Eden: Science Fiction: Mythologies dives into the world of science fiction through the works of 24 Asian women artists and collectives.
And it doesn’t end there – go on a virtual trip at ArtScience Museum’s VR Gallery featuring Samara by artist Hsin-Chien Huang. This award-winning experience invites participants on a virtual journey to see the world through different perspectives, and in turn come to a new understanding of our society.

Lastly, no festival is complete without food. Happening concurrently with the festival and in celebration of art, selected restaurants across Marina Bay Sands will include over 40 new cocktails, mocktails and bar bites for a limited time only. Some of the participating restaurants include Wakuda Restaurant & Bar with five new creative beverages and Lavo Italian Restaurant & Rooftop Bar with six innovative bar bites. Bread Street Kitchen & Bar will also be serving up unique English gin-based cocktails while Yardbird will offer a Caribbean espresso martini paired with jalapeño poppers and smoked brisket cradled in a Chinese bao bun.
