The Sea is a Field is a two-year collaborative project by artists Simryn Gill and Charles Lim Yi Yong that reflects their journeys between Port Dickson, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Using videos from Lim and photography and text from Gill, the project captures their travels along the Malacca Strait and Indonesian Sumatra's port towns. They serve as a reminder of how our local culture shapes how we see and navigate the world.
The exhibit situated at Block 37 within Tanjong Pagar Distripark serves as a public presentation of personal contemplations, delving into physical and communal environments. Its proximity to the former Tanjong Pagar Port and Railway Station aligns with the overarching theme of the project, centred around the concepts of movement and migration.
