Did you know that there are hidden pockets of wilderness thriving at the fringes of Singapore’s cityscape? From now until May 18, step into this unseen world through the eyes of local artist Robert Zhao Renhui as he brings his acclaimed Venice exhibition home to SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark. Drawing on a decade of observing the relationship between humans and nature, this immersive showcase explores the city’s lesser-known secondary forests – areas that have regrown after deforestation. Soak up the sights, sounds and stories through a captivating mix of videos and sculptural installations featuring rare encounters: a herd of sambar deer once thought extinct, a buffy fish owl native to Southeast Asia, and even a wild boar giving birth near Zhao’s apartment. Discover a side of Singapore you never knew, and reflect on the possibilities of co-existence in these wild, untamed places.
