Held at Objectifs's Chapel Gallery, this exhibition delves into the intertwined stories of the Para Rubber Tree and plantation labourers in Singapore during the 1900s. Through historical postcards, modern surveys of rubber plantations, and the songs of labourers, the exhibition uncovers the connections formed amid the complex interplay of history, economy, and ecology.
This is the first part of The Colony – an ongoing research project exploring Singapore's early relationship with the botanical empire and its impact on the movement of seeds, plants, and people during the colonial era.
